Magical day on the Rock! :) Overlooking from pitch 3-Tiki Saab

This was a super incredible route and day on the rock, soaking up the hot Italian rays with good mates. Climbed with Duncan and met with the crew at the top after a hard 10 pitches in muggy windy conditions. Finished in classy Itailiano' style with home brewed Vinos that flowed, and incredible food.... Tu-meke!


                                Flowing vino + amazing food + company = very happy me!

It was an incredible week working at La Source Yoga/ski chalet in Samoens , France (www.sourcealps.com).  Saskia, Duncs, Miki Bee and Jay River  run the joint there and it was a huge privilege to meet them and they have since remained great friends. "La Source is a unique green ski, yoga and adventure sports lodge in Samoens, the French Alps, 1 hour from Geneva. The designer eco-renovated 1865 farm has been described as a ‘Hip 21st Century Commune’! Founded on principles of sustainability, inter-connection, and personal growth, La Source is a place where you can tune in to your own beat and just  ‘be’!

I learnt a lot from Johnny Falkiner about breath and fludity of movement on the rock. Johhny guides mountain and climbing trips all over the world including Kashmir, Lebanon and Elbrus. I was blown away by his teachings of breath and fluidity on the rock, and still to this day, I pass on the knowledge that he taught me, in my rock climbing classes. "Climbing- breathe-focus- being in the moment-" Merci Johnny. 

We all had an awesome week of yoga and climbing,  great food and vino was enjoyed, new climbing friendships were made, bodies ached in a dream-state way and once again I left the Euro Alps with a huge Smile.  x

Within a moment or a split second,.. life, dreams, and plans can change so quickly.  A death of a loved one, a missed train, meeting someone who opens your eyes to new horizons, or watching another sun go down over the sea and an inspired thought comes to mind.

Sometimes life throws things at you when you least expect and I wonder 'why has this happened?' I am continually learning how you deal with these situations can either leave you feeling pretty down - OR hope of moving forward in a different way than you had previously thought.

Within a moment my mums eyes closed for ever, and even one year later it is not always an easy ride.Within a moment, a shark underfoot my ski's and taking a corner too fast resulted in a torn MCL and a hope of a season skiing back in NZ demolished. Dreamland bubble popped - 2 months rehab and no work. I know its my choice in how I deal with different situations that arise and what learning I can take away in the best possible way :) A definite reminder to how much I can take my body for granted and how important friends and family are.

It was a crazy last week in Europe, finishing work in Wales, and a quick jet-set trip to Biaritz and Amsterdam en-route to Castle Hill for a season of skiing! The first CHILL season skiing and living at C.hill since 2006.Was super stoked to fly into chch at midnight and with a couple of hours sleep we were already driving north in 'schurli' with Ferdi, Marco, Sepe and Flo for a 70cem fresh (?!) day at Lyford!

It was super awesome to have the Austrian crew out from Obertauern and to show them my wonderland at the clubfields. Days were spent Apres' ski golf at the Village, ridin' the clubbies, chasing rabbits, cooking up mean feeds, and soaking up life chillin' at the C.HILL.  During the K2 Big Mountain comp Euro's flocked to Craigies and Mt O - it was awesome to watch some extremely talented athletes hit some huge cliffs and lines. C.H.V became a mini-euro backpackers in that week, new friendships were made and we shared some good nights and fun lines! Danke Schone :)





Big cheers to Schurli, Seb, Flo, Spitzee, Ferdi and Marco for coming out to C.Hill and sharing my wonderland. And big ups to Kai, Eric, Johannes, Bastl and Travis for a super fun week. Kia Kaha

After a summer of being back in the homeland and getting amongst the ocean, the need to be back in Europe with whanau called amongst getting back into another season at FullON.
Headed straight to Austria, and caught up with the OT crew for a week of epic climbing and Kayaking in Seeboden, cranked a quick weeks work back at B.A.C in Ireland before another super awesome 7 weeks work in Wales. What more can I say than 'words cannot describe the season had! ' Huge growth, beauty people, super rewarding in every kind of way. Chur to the Chur to the crew :)

Haere' Ra Ireland and Europe



NOV 2009

Incredible afternoon sailing on Strarnford Ireland, followed by vino and cheese watching the sun set into amazing colours over the Mourne Mountains. Reflections on the glassy water. Perfect for wake boarding. Realise the need of the ocean in my life right now and how much of a healer it is after mums death. Time to go home for an NZ summer full of Kayaking Murchison, Sea Kayaking Marlboorugh sounds and Kaiteri and Surfing Taylors and Punakaiki.

Bouldering Fontainebleau

August 2009

Five super cool cats. One very small car. Four DMS Bouldering mats. And a group attitude that we had 6 days to explore the magical area of Fontainebleau and 'Climb as hard as we possibly could' - we knew we were in for an EPIC time. And that it was!

Drew (Drewski), Trudie (Trudestarz), Loren (Loz), Gareth (G.G) and Jase (Swami Jhzoo Jhzoo) and myself were the crew.  We worked a pretty tight but cruisy schedule of 7am yoga and pranayama sessions in the trees, walking to the french Baguette man where Jase would crack me up, trying in his best french accent to order the banquet of croissants and baguettes for the day. Meanwhile back at camp base, fresh coffee was being brewed by Loz, perfecting the best espresso in the world!

It was seriously one of the best weeks climbing in my life! The crew was *magic*, the climbing culture of FONT was in-beatable and the bouldering itself indescribable!

My work collegues in the Llamberis Pass - Wales

Over the last 2 summer seasons I been extremely grateful to have had the opportunity to work for an inspiring New Zealand personal development company called 'FULL ON' in Wales. (www.fullon.co.nz) Amongst rad climbing, bouldering and exploring the Snowdonia area in the liquid sunshine we had the pleasure of running a personal development programme to students from all over the USA. The mission: to get better results out of life!

Every day I was inspired. I loved my job, the ethos, colleagues and the students. To see a student break through a board with their bare hand, abseil off a 70 foot castle and see a spark in their eye that they could achieve whatever they want in life was powerful. To hear students speak positive and real affirmations of who they are in their life and what they want to accomplish, and to see their smile and self-motivation as they left at the end of the day.

The 'Reticular activating system (R.A.S) ', is one of the key concepts that is discussed throughout the day. Recently, I've been researching and thinking more about it and how it applies to my life.
The reticular activating system  is the name given to the part of the brain (the reticular formation and its connections) believed to be the center of arousal and motivation in mammals (including humans).

The reticular activating system interprets and reacts to "information" from internal stimuli, feelings, attitudes, and beliefs as well as external sensory stimuli by regulating arousal states, attentional focus, and the level of awareness; critical elements of consciousness itself (Empson 1986; Tice & Steinberg 1989). How we interpret, respond, and react to "information" then, is managed by the brain's reticular formation stimulating the thalamus and cortex, and controlling attentiveness and level of arousal (Empson 1986).

Dachstein - Febraury 2009
"Hoher Dachstein the second highest mountain in the Northern Limestone Alps. It is situated at the border of Upper Austria and Styria in central Austria, and is the highest point in each of those states. The Dachstein massif covers an area of around 20×30 km with dozens of peaks above 2,500 m, the highset of which are in the southern and south-western areas. "

Zenekar, Obertauern, Austria - Miriam, Marco, Sepe, Davit, and me.

The night was so still, the stars were out, it was a peeeerfect night... Snow had been falling gently for two days non-stop leaving only a mountain of untracked goodness to discover and free ride... the clouds had cleared and the crew was ampin' to go...Yeeeeeowww!!

Peeps and snow shoes on, probes and shovels packed, snowboards strapped on... the mountain awaited us with open arms.  The cold mountain air felt so fresh on my face...just feeling super stoked to be alive and living in the moment. Ninety minutes of hiking, we reached our destination.

Strapping in, kick ass smiles were seen all round as half a metre of champagne powder awaited us. Rock n Roll' - Let it flow - shouts of pure happiness were heard all around... Words cannot describe the feelings had.... the snow was incredibly light, dry and pure. Four special mates to ride with, and the terrain so diverse. Truly champagne powder paradise...Ultra Shaiz-geil pulver TRAUM!

After what only felt like moments we had reached the bottom.

Fully S-T-O-K-E-D grins, huge high 5's and hugs, and a natural high to keep anyone going for days! Till the next turn, Danke Schone Davit from Blue Tomato for the gears, Sepe, Mirium, and Marco.

It will be a night to remember always.
